I've Installed Table Corner Guards. What Else Do I Need?

Baby Proofing 101

Baby proofing a home is often something that people underestimate. After all, toddlers are often far more intelligent than many people give them credit for.

Unfortunately, it's not enough to simply install table corner guards and call it a day— there's a handful of other areas of your home that can pose a safety hazard to your child.

Not sure where to start? Don't worry, we’ve got you covered.

Let's take a look at everything you need to know about what else you need to consider.

Tie Down Large Appliances

Unfortunately, it's not impossible for your child to try and climb upon an entertainment center that houses a large television. Similarly, TVs that are mounted to the wall may be a point of interest for your toddler.

In extreme circumstances, they can accidentally knock down these appliances and injure themselves. Even in minor scenarios, you're likely to experience thousands of dollars in damage.

Instead, you should ensure that these appliances are firmly secured with furniture straps so that you can prevent any incidents from occurring.

Lock Toilet Lids

Children are naturally curious, which leads them to explore almost everything around them. As you may expect, nothing good can come from a toddler lifting the lid of a toilet seat on their own.

Under most circumstances, this will lead to them injuring their head or fingers. Additionally, it's best that they don't play around with the water in the toilet bowl.

A simple lid lock will keep your bathroom safe, though, and is a worthy addition to any home.

Keep Drawers Locked, Too

Drawers with knives or other dangerous objects should be kept locked at all times. Even turning your back for a second could result in your child rummaging through a drawer full of dangerous utensils.

Keeping these drawers properly secured can be easily accomplished by using a magnetic lock. That way, you can avoid the troublesome aspects of unlocking traditional locks (such as misplacing the key).

Keep Medication Stored Away

Medication is one of the most dangerous items to have in your home once a child is old enough to explore on their own.

The primary reason behind this is that many children think medication resembles candy. This can easily lead them to them consuming as much as possible, something can have catastrophic effects.

So, make sure that any medication you have is kept in a secure location, preferably one that is far above your toddler's height.

Table Corner Guards Are Just The Beginning

So don't stop there when you've installed them in your home.

With the above information about what else you need in addition to table corner guards, you'll be well on your way toward ensuring that your house is as safe as possible for your child.
