Cosleeping With Infant

Understanding Co-Sleeping

Co-sleeping with an infant where you get to sleep side by side can be the most peaceful feeling any mother can experience. There is comfort in seeing how cute and cuddly a baby looks when they are asleep, giving mothers a sense of assurance knowing they can monitor and attend to their baby’s needs speedily.

The act of co-sleeping can be made comfy and appealing with king-size beds, and both partners involved in the co-sleeping process where they take turns in checking, feeding, and rocking the baby at odd hours.

As cozy and loving as it seems, co-sleeping with infants has presented several precarious situations for infants like SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This disorder can most likely be caused by cases of suffocation, compression, or neglect due to soft pillows and beddings that drown parents to sleep longer. Also, in co-sleeping, mothers might be lucky to get as much as 4 hours of sleep due to the semi-conscious mental activity that will occur unavoidably. However, noticing these anomalies, there are different and safer ways to make infants and parents attain maximum satisfaction in co-sleeping.

Co-ShareDon’t Co-Sleep:

Several people might suggest that co-sleeping with an infant affects the intimate moment between partners. Others may suggest that to avoid losing your partner’s interest, create room for co-sharing where the infant comfortably sleeps in their bassinet and allows the parents the joy of enjoying their intimate time in their bed. This doesn’t rule out the baby sleeping in the bedroom area; it only limits the baby’s space to their bassinet, thereby accommodating them as co-sharers.

Keep an Electric Monitor Close:

If you fear that as a mother, alertness is difficult, co-sleeping with the baby will make you conscious, then this is the wrong move. You and the little one need to have good uninterrupted sleep at every opportunity. Staying alert is achieved when a mini-baby monitor is provided next to the little one’s bassinet. Every breathing and cry is resounded clearly for quick response.

Sleep Training Process:

Although experts advise that infants should co-sleep with their parents for 6- 12 months, a sleep training process for infants is essential; it guides the child to sleep comfortably without regular tossing and turns or sudden cry for food.

Make the Infant Sleep in Their Personal Bassinet or Crib:

Keep the bassinet or crib in the bedroom to keep that proximity; this slowly allows the baby to gentle respond to being independent and decisive.

Apply Safety Measures

The fact remains that co-sleeping with babies brings a special bond between parents and their little ones as they get to play and share. However, the safety of a baby is paramount, and you must apply safety measures. When your little one is restless from co-sleeping and co-sharing, your doctor is always a phone call away to address any overwhelming challenges. There must be an intentional approach embraced in co-sleeping so everyone can rest calmly and peacefully.
